Is a food allergy the same as a food intolerance?
No. A food allergy involves the immune system and can trigger a serious, sometimes life threatening reaction called anaphylaxis. A food intolerance, like lactose intolerance, causes uncomfortable digestive symptoms but does not involve the immune system and is not life threatening.
